Thermac is one of the UK's leading suppliers’ of asbestos removal equipment and consumables. Thermac hires and sells equipment; services equipment, manufactures equipment and offers RPE face fitting. Employing around 50 people across several branches, operating out of an expansive national office / depot network and working with blue-chip clients across a wide range of public and private UK industrial sectors.
Overall purpose of the role:
Working within a live asbestos enclosure, the Decontamination Operative is responsible for providing day to day decontamination of customer and hire equipment used in asbestos environments. They are responsible for following all safe systems of work, company policy and procedure and ensuring everything they do reaches adequate compliance and safety standards. Ensuring RPE and PPE is fully functioning, fit for purpose, clean and without defect. Wrapping and bagging waste correctly, recording all necessary daily and weekly administration tasks and responsible for their own adequate and thorough decontamination at the end of shift period.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- To ensure daily safety checks and maintenance are carried out, recorded and issues reported promptly
- All mask inspections are completed and recorded accurately
- To ensure that their own issued RPE/PPE is inspected, fully functioning, clean, in good order and without defect.
- To ensure that any and all work carried out within the decontamination area is in compliance with company policy, health and safety and legal requirements.
- To ensure own decontamination process is completed fully at the end of each shift period
- To ensure all hire equipment is inspected during decontamination and any damage identified flagged to line manager
- To ensure all waste, plant and equipment is bagged and stored correctly
- To ensure decontamination enclosure is cleaned to an approved standard
- To work as part of a team and be flexible with approach to work requirements on a daily basis
- To attend training and refresher training when required to do so
- To keep work area tidy, organised, stock correctly located and free from clutter at all times
- To carry out any other appropriate duties as requested by Senior Management
Health & Safety Duties & Responsibilities:
- To participate in any communication activities through formal and informal channels on safety matters to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas.
- To ensure that the Thermac safety image is reflected positively through your actions
- To ensure that you have received the necessary training so that you can competently carry out your duties and responsibilities.
- To acknowledge and accept a personal responsibility for safety.
- To take responsibility for ensuring that plant and equipment within your remit is maintained and fit for purpose.
- To readily raise any concerns over Health & Safety breaches in accordance with Company Procedure
Critical Performance Measures (CPM’s/Objectives):
- Daily/Weekly safety checks are completed and recorded
- Mask inspections are in line with company policy and recorded
- To ensure there is no deviation from safety, compliance or legalities when working in the decontamination area
- Highlight damage charges to company equipment when identified
- To keep decontamination area clean and tidy
- Ensure all waste is bagged, stored and removed appropriately
- To support the Service department in any and all duties that you are qualified or trained in
- To ensure all safety issues, accidents and/or near misses are reported
Experience/Qualifications required:
