Health & Safety Advisor
Salary: £45,000
Location: Sutton in Ashfield Office with UK-Wide Travel

About Herrett Construction Contractors
We are a UK construction company specialising in the refurbishment and fit-out of automotive showrooms, workshops, service centres and related commercial environments. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to support the safe delivery of projects ranging from smaller refurbishment works through to larger multi-million-pound schemes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health and Safety professional who understands the demands of live construction environments, fast-paced refurbishment projects and client-facing work within the automotive sector.
The Role
As Health and Safety Officer, you will be responsible for promoting, monitoring and improving health and safety standards across our construction projects. You will work closely with contracts managers, site managers, subcontractors and clients to ensure that all works are delivered safely, legally and in line with company procedures.
You will visit sites across the UK, carry out inspections and audits, provide practical advice to project teams and help maintain a positive safety culture across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and champion a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the business.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews across multiple projects.
- Provide practical Health & Safety advice and support to Site Management Teams.
- Produce detailed inspection reports and monitor corrective actions through to completion.
- Review and advise on Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Support the preparation and review of Construction Phase Plans (CPPs).
- Review and advise on COSHH Assessments and Fire Risk Assessments.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and other relevant legislation.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, site teams, and stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Health & Safety Advisor or similar role.
- Previous experience within the UK construction sector.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills, including report writing and Microsoft Office.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and stay away from home when required.
Desirable
· TechIOSH or GradIOSH status.
· Experience within refurbishment, fit-out, automotive retail, workshop or commercial construction projects.
· Knowledge of ISO systems, CHAS, Constructionline or similar accreditations.
· First Aid, SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
· Environmental management experience
