Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Manager to lead our SHE and ensure the business operates to the highest standards of safety, health, environmental compliance, and sustainability.
This is a key role responsible for developing and maintaining effective SHE systems, promoting a positive safety culture across the business, and ensuring full compliance with all relevant UK legislation and industry standards. Ensuring accurate reporting, supplier compliance, and adherence to evolving environmental regulations.
Working collaboratively with operational teams, suppliers, and senior management, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives that support compliance, sustainability objectives, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance
· Ensure compliance with all relevant Safety, Health and Environmental legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
· Develop, implement, and maintain SHE policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
· Conduct and review risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are in place.
· Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
· Manage internal SHE audits and support external audits, inspections, and regulatory visits.
· Monitor legislative changes and implement updates to maintain compliance.
· Promote a positive safety culture throughout the business.
Environmental & EPR Compliance
· Lead the organisation's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance programme.
· Manage the collection, validation, and submission of packaging data to regulatory bodies.
· Ensure accurate and timely reporting to meet statutory requirements.
· Maintain supplier compliance documentation and environmental records.
· Work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure packaging compliance standards are met.
· Support environmental initiatives aimed at reducing waste, improving recycling, and enhancing sustainability performance.
Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and operational costs.
· Drive initiatives to improve waste management, resource utilisation, and material efficiency.
· Analyse SHE performance data and implement improvement plans.
· Support sustainability and environmental improvement projects across the business.
· Provide regular SHE performance reports and recommendations to senior management.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
· Work collaboratively with operational teams to improve SHE standards across the site.
· Provide SHE guidance and support to managers and employees.
· Deliver training, coaching, and awareness programmes.
· Build strong relationships with external bodies, suppliers, and regulatory authorities where required.
· Promote employee engagement and accountability for SHE performance.
What We're Looking For
Essential
· Proven experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental management role.
· Strong understanding of UK SHE legislation and compliance requirements.
· Experience managing risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
· Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
· Experience of regulatory reporting and data management.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
· Experience with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations.
· Experience within manufacturing, food production, FMCG, or beverage industries.
· Knowledge of packaging compliance regulations.
· Environmental management experience.
· Experience leading sustainability programmes and environmental improvement projects.
Qualifications
Essential
· NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
Desirable
· NEBOSH Diploma.
· IOSH Membership.
· Environmental Management qualification (IEMA or equivalent).
