Role type: Volunteer
Make a difference in your community
Life can feel lonely sometimes - and most of us know what that feels like. Our Befriending Service helps reduce loneliness and isolation, boost confidence, and support people to maintain their independence.
We’re looking for compassionate and friendly volunteers to join our team as Volunteer Befrienders.
What will I do as a Befriender?
As a Befriender, you’ll be offering a friendly face and a listening ear to people who may feel isolated or struggle to connect with community life. You’ll build trusting, supportive relationships that can make a real difference.
Your role may include:
- Listening and engaging in meaningful conversations
- Taking part in activities agreed with your client (e.g. walks, hobbies, outings)
- Helping to build confidence and self-belief
- Encouraging clients to rediscover interests and hobbies
What we can offer you
- Welcome and induction training (covering safeguarding, confidentiality, boundaries and expectations)
- Ongoing training opportunities to develop your skills
- Regular support from the Befriending Coordinator
- The chance to make a genuine difference to someone’s life
- Gain valuable experience which can help towards someone's future employability
Where will I be?
Befriending usually takes place in the client’s home or at mutually agreed locations such as cafés, parks or garden centres.
Interested?
If you’d like to help someone feel less alone and more connected, we’d love to hear from you.
