Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-time Cook and Kitchen Help, to provide holiday cover for our Small Under 2's Nursery. This role involves preparing and cooking healthy wholefood meals and snacks, clearing up after meals plus other kitchen duties, ensuring a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment is kept for our young children. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, experience in healthy, wholefood cooking and a good understanding of food safety standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a nurturing setting while gaining valuable experience in early childhood care and catering.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking nutritious meals and snacks suitable for children under 2 years of age
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and eating areas in accordance with food safety regulations
- Serving meals to children in a friendly and caring manner, ensuring their dietary needs are met
- Helping set up mealtime areas and cleaning and tidying afterwards
- Supporting nursery staff during busy periods, including helping with children's activities if required
- Following all health and safety procedures diligently to ensure a safe environment for children and staff
Experience
- Previous experience in wholefood preparation and cooking, ideally within a childcare, nursery, or restaurant setting
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience working with young children is desirable
- Familiarity with meal preparation for infants and toddlers is advantageous
- Good organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently
- A caring attitude and excellent communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and team members
