Job Title: School Pastoral Manager
Responsible to: Headteacher
Role Overview
The Pastoral Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping and embedding the school’s behaviour and pastoral strategy. Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, the post holder provides leadership and guidance to staff, supporting consistent, preventative approaches to behaviour management and pupil wellbeing.
The role includes responsibility for undertaking the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) duties. The postholder will work within the safeguarding team, ensuring that safeguarding systems and practice remain robust, compliant, and responsive. Through effective use of data, professional collaboration, and targeted intervention, the Pastoral Manager supports improved pupil engagement, reduces behaviours of concern, and promotes positive long-term outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Leadership and Pupil Support
Provide targeted pastoral interventions that support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, resilience, and personal development
Contribute to and lead assessments to identify pupils requiring additional support, developing appropriate pastoral, social, and behavioural programmes
Promote high standards of dignity, respect, and care within a safe, nurturing, and aspirational environment
Behaviour and Inclusion
- Lead the development and implementation of the Pastoral Hub, including the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) across the school, ensuring staff understand both theory and practical application
Monitor, analyse, and report on behaviours of concern, RPI data, and wider behaviour trends to inform proactive planning
Lead Post-Incident Debriefs and Learning sessions, ensuring all paperwork is complete, accurate and responded to within timeframes expected
Reduce reliance on physical intervention by embedding proactive, preventative approaches, including staff coaching and consistent practice. This will be supported through regular review and refinement of Risk Assessments and Therapeutic Learning Plans (TLPs), ensuring responses are personalised, relational, and focused on supporting regulation and positive outcomes for each young person.
Maintain oversight of the school’s behaviour logging systems, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and effective and timely follow-up
Staff Leadership and Development
Lead, manage, and support the Pastoral Team, including supervision, performance development reviews, and professional development planning
Identify training needs and deliver staff training, particularly in PBS and safeguarding, aligned with the School Development Plan
Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to ensure consistency and shared understanding across the school of behaviour support
Safeguarding
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance, including KCSiE and fulfil the role of DSL
Ensure that the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures are fully implemented and regularly reviewed
Ensure ‘Day One’ safeguarding is delivered to all staff on joining the school
Promote a strong culture of safeguarding, ensuring that pupil welfare remains central to all aspects of school life
Maintain accurate safeguarding records and support effective liaison with families, external agencies, and professionals
Operational and Strategic Responsibilities
Attend and actively contribute to Senior Leadership Team and Education Committee meetings, providing reports and data as required
Support the coordination of day-to-day pastoral care systems, including break and lunchtime rotas
Coordinate and monitor the school’s complaints procedures for children and young people
Oversee systems relating to attendance monitoring and the management of pupil medication
Develop and maintain positive partnerships with parents, carers, community organisations, and external agencies
Contribute to the review and development of policies to ensure compliance with Calcot company expectations, Ofsted frameworks, and legal guidance
Ensure Contextualised Safeguarding support is embedded in the curriculum of the school
Work with external agencies to secure enhanced learning opportunities for the pupils where available
Professional Standards
Maintain clear, accurate, and confidential records relating to all areas of responsibility
Engage in ongoing CPD and remain informed of current sector developments and best practice
Uphold the highest professional standards and act as a positive role model for staff and pupils
Safeguarding Statement
The CSfC company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people. The Pastoral Lead is required to have a secure understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities and will act as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). This includes completion of CSfC DSL training and Local Authority Child Protection Lead training.

Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
