Salary: OTE of £42,000 - £45,000

The Cock Inn Pub is a welcoming, family-friendly, food led country pub in Headley, known for our freshly prepared dishes, great drinks, and warm hospitality. We’re looking for a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic General Manager to join and lead our friendly team.

About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Pub General Manager to lead our team, drive performance, and deliver an outstanding customer experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated leader who is passionate about the pub industry and wants to run a successful, profitable site with the support of a strong team.
Key Responsibilities
- Full operational responsibility for the pub, including front of house, kitchen, cellar, and events.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the entire team (kitchen, bar, and floor staff) to deliver exceptional service.
- Drive sales and profitability through effective cost control, upselling, and marketing initiatives.
- Manage budgets, P&L, stock control, and all financial reporting.
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, health & safety, licensing compliance (Premises Licence), and cleanliness.
- Oversee recruitment, training, performance management, and staff rotas.
- Build strong relationships with regular customers and the local community.
- Develop and execute plans for events, seasonal promotions, and menu launches in collaboration with the Head Chef.
- Ensure the pub remains compliant with all company policies and legal requirements (including alcohol licensing and food hygiene).
- Act as the public face of the pub, maintaining a visible presence during peak times.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a General Manager (or strong Deputy Manager ready to step up) in a busy pub, gastro-pub, or hospitality venue.
- Strong track record of delivering sales targets and controlling costs.
- Excellent people management and leadership skills with the ability to build and retain great teams.
- Thorough knowledge of licensing laws, food safety (Level 3 Food Hygiene desirable), and health & safety regulations.
- Passion for great food, drink, and customer service.
- Financially literate with experience managing a P&L.
- Approachable, resilient, and able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
