Job Description
This role is responsible for the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of water treatment/distribution and industrial waste collection systems. You will ensure the continuous operation of all associated equipment through hands-on troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and adherence to the highest safety standards.
Some key responsibilities involve the successful candidate to operate, maintain, and repair potable and non-potable water treatment works and industrial waste systems. This includes troubleshooting and overhauling machinery, including pollution control and laboratory testing equipment. A key part of the job involves planning and laying out work using blueprints, sketches, and work orders. The operator will also perform preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and longevity, all while upholding safety regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Being able to identify an issue, and work in a team to a high professional standard is a must. Training will be given when needed and performing other duties within the water and fuel shop when required
Qualifications and Key skills
· Level 2/3 in an appropriate discipline (i.e. Fabrication and Welding or Mechanical engineering or wastewater), plus 1 year of specialized experience per the key skills below
· A valid UK CAT B driving license
1. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including their operation, installation, and repair
2. Thorough understanding of equipment operating characteristics and the ability to apply appropriate installation and repair methods, procedures, and trade practices and expertise in the materials, parts, and processes for water/wastewater treatment and equipment installation
3. Proficient with test equipment and precision measuring devices.
4. Thorough understanding of all relevant safety practices and regulations
5. Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and various test equipment.
6. Skill and ability to interpret and apply technical specifications from blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and work orders.
7. Capable of troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining all equipment within a water and wastewater treatment plant.
8. Skilled in fabricating templates, jigs, and other fixtures needed for repair or installation tasks.
9. Ability to independently diagnose issues, plan work, and complete major system projects from start to finish
Conditions of employment
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
2. Travel, including by military or civilian aircraft to the US and other countries, may be required for official duties or training
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Your work schedule is flexible to meet mission needs and may require you to work overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays, or shifts. You may also be assigned other duties that are appropriate for your skills and grade.
5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. You must obtain and maintain all required occupational training and certifications per US/UK industry standards and management directives. You will be responsible for training and guiding junior military and civilian personnel.
7. A pre-appointment physical/health screening is required, and appointment is contingent upon passing this examination.
8. As Mission Essential personnel, you are required to report for and remain on duty during your normal work hours, regardless of base closures, delayed openings, or early releases
9. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not include regular drug testing; however, testing may be required following an accident or upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse.
