Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the quality of care delivered and the day-to-day management of the care home
- Ensure all care staff adhere to Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014
- Maintain registration with the CQC and respond to all regulatory requirements and inspection notices
- Develop, implement and monitor policies, procedures and protocols in line with best practice and statutory requirements
- Manage staffing: recruitment, induction, training, appraisals, disciplinary and capability procedures
- Ensure mandatory training is completed by all staff (safeguarding, health and safety, fire safety, infection control)
- Lead on safeguarding adults and child protection, including reporting of concerns to local authorities and CQC
- Supervise the Head of Care and ensure effective delegation of duties
- Oversee financial management, budgeting and procurement within delegated authority
- Maintain comprehensive care records in accordance with GDPR and professional standards
- Manage incidents and accidents, including investigation and reporting to relevant authorities
- Conduct regular supervision and appraisals with staff; maintain staff morale and motivation
- Liaise with external agencies: local authorities, NHS, CQC inspectors, safeguarding teams
- Promote person-centred care and actively champion dignity, independence and choice
- Ensure medicines management systems are robust and comply with regulations
- Lead quality assurance activities and drive continuous improvement
Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
- Current NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification
- NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care Management or equivalent
- Registered with CQC as a Registered Manager or eligible to register within 3 months of appointment
- Minimum 3 years' management experience in a regulated care setting
- Demonstrable knowledge of Health and Social Care Act 2008 Regulations and CQC inspection frameworks
- Strong safeguarding awareness and experience managing safeguarding incidents
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Ability to manage budgets and financial accountability
- Clear understanding of person-centred care approaches
- Enhanced DBS clearance (no safeguarding concerns)
- Right to work in the UK
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of successful CQC inspections (GOOD or OUTSTANDING ratings)
- Knowledge of Health and Social Care Act 2008 Controlled Operations
- Experience implementing digital care record systems
- Dementia-specific care qualifications or experience
- Leadership or management qualifications beyond NVQ Level 4

This is a regulated care home. All staff are required to comply with Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, CQC registration requirements, and all care home policies and procedures. An Enhanced DBS clearance is mandatory. All staff must engage in mandatory training and professional development.
