The Role
The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC wood routers to produce high-quality components for chair frames. The role also involves hands-on assembly, contributing to product development, and supporting continuous improvement across the production process.
This is a practical, hands-on role requiring strong attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
CNC Operation & Production
· Set up, program, and operate CNC wood routers to cut components for chair frames
· Select and set correct tooling, speeds, and feeds for different materials
· Carry out routine machine checks, adjustments, and basic maintenance
· Monitor production runs to ensure quality standards are met and waste is minimised
· Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and production specifications
Frame Assembly & Manufacturing
- Assemble chair frames using CNC-cut components to require specifications
- Use jigs, fixtures, and templates to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Support modifications and improvements to existing frame designs
- Conduct quality checks on finished products to ensure durability and finish standards
Design & Development
- Work closely with the in-house design team on new product development
- Provide practical feedback on design feasibility, materials, and manufacturability
- Assist with prototype builds, testing, and refinement of new designs
General Duties
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment in line with Health & Safety procedures
- Record work completed, material usage, and any production or design adjustments
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
- Work flexibly across departments and assist with wider workshop activities when required
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Experience operating CNC wood routers or similar automated machinery
- Strong practical woodworking and frame assembly skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
Desirable:
- Experience within furniture manufacturing, particularly chair frames
- Knowledge of jig/fixture design for repeatable production
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement
Working hours & environment
You will usually work standard production hours 39 hours per week working Monday to Thursday 07:30am to 16:30pm with a 15-minute paid tea break and 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day and Friday 07:30am to 12:30pm with a 15 minute paid tea break.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £13.80-£13.90 per hour
