Contract: Split shifts (AM and PM), part time, term time.
Location: You will be collected and return to/from your home to your first assignment which could be throughout Swindon.
The Role
As a Passenger Assistant, you’ll help transport children and adults safely to schools and day centres.
We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and flexible individuals who are calm under pressure with good communication and people skills concerning our passengers.
You will work as part of a team with the Driver and assist with passengers safely. Some of our passengers may have an enhanced care requirement, for which you’ll be responsible for ensuring their comfort and safety.
The role involves traveling on a vehicle on a split shift to safely transport passengers to their destination which will likely include mornings and afternoons.
Responsibilities
- Assist passengers during boarding and disembarking from vehicles, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Provide support to passengers with mobility challenges or other special requirements.
- Communicate effectively with passengers to understand their needs and provide appropriate assistance.
- Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor while interacting with passengers and colleagues.
- Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during transport, including the proper use of seatbelts and safety equipment.
- Report any incidents or concerns regarding passenger welfare to the appropriate authorities promptly.
- Collaborate with drivers and other team members to ensure smooth operations and timely service delivery.
Disclosure Barring Service Checks
Due to the nature of the work a criminal record check via the DBS disclosure service will also be required.
As part of your assessment you will be required to demonstrate knowledge, experience and skills in assisting and safeguarding passengers as well as emergency first aid at work
This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. The AM time from your home to the first passenger pick-up point and from school back to home; the PM time from home to school and from the last passenger drop-off to your home will not be considered as “time work” under regulation 30 of the National Minimum Wage Regulations 2025.
