Job Summary
Job Purpose
To ensure all Lotus Care locations are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with health and safety requirements. This role includes carrying out repairs, performing safety checks, maintaining records, and travelling to additional homes as required to support maintenance needs across the group.
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine and emergency repairs across allocated care homes.
- Conduct basic plumbing, joinery, painting, and general maintenance tasks.
- Maintain outdoor areas, ensuring gardens and pathways remain safe.
- Ensure tools and equipment are stored safely and kept in good condition.
Multi-Site Support
- Attend other Lotus Care Home locations as directed to complete maintenance tasks.
- Support planned maintenance and refurbishment projects across sites.
- Provide emergency call-out support when agreed.
- Maintain accurate mileage or company vehicle usage records.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Carry out regular health and safety checks such as water temperatures, fire alarms, and emergency lighting.
- Record all checks accurately in the maintenance log.
- Store and use hazardous materials safely in line with COSHH regulations.
- Report safety concerns, faults, or hazards promptly.
Fire Safety & Security
- Support with fire drills and testing of fire systems.
- Check and maintain security features such as door locks, keypad systems, and external gates.
- Ensure fire exits and escape routes are kept clear and compliant.
Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, checks, and contractor visits.
- Ensure all documentation is completed on time and stored correctly.
- Report significant findings or urgent maintenance needs to the Home Manager.
Contractor & Supplier Liaison
- Accompany contractors during visits and ensure they comply with site safety requirements.
- Support management in sourcing quotes and monitoring external work.
- Ensure work completed by contractors meets Lotus Care standards.
Training, Induction & Competency
- Complete full induction including health and safety procedures, fire safety, and maintenance processes.
- Attend mandatory training such as Fire Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH, Manual Handling, and Infection Control.
- Maintain competency through refresher training and supervision.
- Demonstrate safe working practices, especially when working alone or at external sites.
Teamwork & Communication
- Communicate effectively with staff, managers, and residents.
- Work supportively with colleagues across all Lotus Care locations.
- Prioritise urgent repairs and respond promptly to requests.
Resident Dignity & Respect
- Carry out work respectfully in residents’ rooms and communal areas.
- Always protect resident confidentiality.
- Minimise disruption and ensure residents feel safe and respected.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Experience in a maintenance, caretaking, or similar practical role.
- Good understanding of building maintenance and basic repairs.
- Ability to travel between Lotus Care Home locations as required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Willingness to complete training and competency assessments.
- Professional, reliable, and safety-conscious attitude.
Desirable
- Trade qualifications in plumbing, joinery, or electrical work.
- Experience working in a care home or similar setting.
- Experience working with contractors or overseeing maintenance projects.
