Butter&Bean is a modern, cozy coffee shop in Knaresborough serving specialty coffee, milkshakes, smoothies, mini cupcakes, pastries, scones and light lunch. Our focus is on quality and flavour and we’re looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team.
The role is reasonably flexible and could be worked over 3 or 4 days but must include at least one weekend day. During the week, shifts finish at 5pm. 5 days (30 hours) would be considered for the right candidate.

Role Purpose
The Assistant Manager supports the owner in the daily running of the store, ensuring excellent customer service, smooth operations, and a positive team culture. They act as the manager-on-duty when required and help drive sales, maintain standards, and develop staff.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee daily store operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and stock management.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene in line with UK regulations.
- Ensure all drinks and food items are prepared to brand standards.
- Monitor inventory levels, complete stock counts, and support ordering processes.
- Handle customer queries, complaints, and feedback professionally.
Team Leadership
- Support the Manager in supervising, motivating, and developing the team.
- Lead shifts, allocate tasks, and ensure staff are working efficiently.
- Assist with training new team members in customer service, product knowledge, and operational procedures.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
Customer Experience
- Ensure every customer receives friendly, fast, and personalised service.
- Maintain a welcoming atmosphere and uphold brand values.
- Monitor service speed, product quality, and store presentation.
Sales & Business Support
- Support the Manager in achieving sales targets and controlling costs.
- Promote product knowledge among staff.
- Assist with local marketing initiatives and seasonal promotions.
- Review daily/weekly performance reports and help identify improvement opportunities.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to health and safety, food hygiene, and allergen procedures.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, GDPR, and cash-handling protocols.
- Report maintenance issues and ensure equipment is safe and functional.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly, confident manner.
- Ability to lead a team and manage a busy environment.
- Competent in cash handling and basic admin
- Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (Level 2 Food Hygiene desirable).
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and solve problems quickly.

Pay: £13.50-£14.50 per hour
