The Service Manager – Environmental Operations is a pivotal role responsible for leading and delivering high-quality frontline environmental services across the borough. This position ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous service improvement while managing a large workforce. The role is crucial in maintaining high standards for residents, businesses, and stakeholders, providing strategic and operational leadership in a 24-hour service environment.

Manage a large operational workforce (up to 150 staff) through Supervisors and Assistant Managers.

Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, service standards, and contractual requirements.

Monitor and drive service performance against KPIs, implementing improvements where necessary.

Identify and resolve service issues promptly, ensuring sustainable solutions.

Manage budgets, resources, and operational planning effectively.

Deliver continuous service improvement and operational efficiencies.

Essential Experience Required

Proven experience managing large teams within environmental services, waste management, or a related operational environment.

Strong track record of delivering high-quality, customer-focused public services.

Experience managing budgets and driving cost-effective operational performance.

Essential Qualifications Required

Full UK driving licence.

Relevant management-level experience in environmental or waste services.

Strong leadership and people management skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Location: Hackney, London.

Rate: £31.19 – £42.03 per hour (Umbrella).

Contract: Full-time | Shift-based (including evenings, nights & weekends).
