Help Shape the Future of Music Education
MTB Exams is one of the UK’s fastest-growing music examination boards.
Since launching our first Ofqual-regulated qualifications in 2019, we have grown from a start-up into an international examination board working with thousands of exam centres across the UK and overseas.
We are now looking for an ambitious Business Development & Relationship Manager to help expand our network of active exam centres across the UK and Europe.
This is a commercially focused role with strong long-term earning potential. In addition to salary and KPI bonuses, you will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of commission-generating centres, with commission payable on qualifying revenue for up to three years.
This is an opportunity to join a small, ambitious company where your work will have a direct impact on MTB’s next stage of growth.
The Role
This is a relationship-led business development role combining consultative sales, centre activation and customer growth.
You will research and identify new opportunities, build relationships with teachers and schools, convert prospective centres into active users, and support allocated centres to increase their exam activity over time.
This is not a hard-sell role, but it is a proactive commercial role. You will need to be confident starting conversations, following up opportunities and working towards agreed growth targets.
Training and support will be provided when you start, including guidance on MTB’s exam model, systems, sales approach and onboarding processes.
Knowledge of music education is highly desirable, but equally important is commercial confidence, strong communication and the ability to build trust with teachers, schools and education organisations.
Location and Working Pattern
The role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the UK, with occasional travel for team meetings, customer visits, conferences and events.
Candidates based near our London office are welcome to work on a hybrid basis.
We are open to both full-time and part-time applicants, with a minimum commitment of three days per week.
Pay and Rewards
The successful candidate will receive:
- Base salary of £30,000–£33,000 FTE, depending on experience.
- Up to £4,000 annual KPI-based bonus, paid quarterly, pro-rated for part-time roles.
- 5% portfolio commission on qualifying revenue generated by centres you introduce, activate or are formally allocated to manage and grow.
Commission is payable on qualifying exam revenue for up to three years from the date each centre signs up, provided the centre forms part of your agreed portfolio.
Realistic first-year earnings are expected to be around £40,000 FTE. As your portfolio of active centres grows, earnings can increase meaningfully in years two and three, with strong performers having the potential to earn £50,000–£60,000+ (FTE) over time through recurring portfolio commission.
Full details of the commission structure will be discussed during the recruitment process.
For staff who show the right qualities there will be progression opportunities and performance based pay rises available.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Researching and identifying new growth opportunities across the UK and Europe, including prospective centres, teacher networks, schools, music services, partnerships, events and outreach channels.
- Contacting prospective music teachers, schools, music services, music hubs and education organisations.
- Explaining the benefits of MTB Exams clearly and professionally.
- Delivering online demonstrations and introductory meetings.
- Following up enquiries and nurturing new business opportunities.
- Supporting prospective, newly registered, dormant or under-engaged centres where commercial guidance can help them become active.
- Building and managing a portfolio of centres where your support contributes to activation, retention and exam entry growth.
- Maintaining accurate records of sales, relationship and account activity using our CRM.
- Working towards KPIs relating to new centre acquisition, centre activation and exam revenue growth.
- Helping develop outreach campaigns, sales materials and onboarding resources.
