About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Planner to join our logistics team. This is a key operational role responsible for the day-to-day management of drivers, vehicle routing, fleet compliance, and transport operations.
The successful candidate will ensure the efficient and cost-effective planning of both company-owned and subcontracted vehicles while maintaining full compliance with transport legislation, operator licence requirements, and health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate daily transport operations for company-owned and subcontracted fleets.
- Optimise routes to maximise fuel and mileage efficiency, minimise overtime, and improve operational profitability.
- Manage fleet maintenance schedules, records, and associated costs.
- Ensure compliance with Operator Licence obligations, including vehicle inspections, defect reporting, and rectification processes.
- Monitor driver hours, Working Time Directive compliance, and tachograph data downloads.
- Provide tachograph counselling and driver support where required.
- Monitor fuel consumption, control costs, and manage fuel ordering.
- Maintain accurate records relating to drivers, vehicles, and fleet operations.
- Support and promote the implementation of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Liaise with internal commercial teams regarding pricing, stock availability, and operational requirements.
- Utilise transport planning and fleet management software effectively.
- Build strong relationships with customers and suppliers, ensuring excellent service delivery.
- Ensure all drivers and vehicles operate within current transport legislation and company policies.
- Brief and debrief drivers, allocate daily workloads, and monitor performance.
- Manage driver-related matters, including performance management and disciplinary processes where required.
- Monitor incoming transport requests, schedule jobs, and allocate work efficiently.
- Complete all associated transport administration accurately and on time.
- Carry out weighbridge duties when required.
- Undertake additional duties as requested by management within the scope of the role.
About You:
You will be a proactive, detail-oriented transport professional with strong organisational skills and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
Essential Requirements
- GCSE, A-Level, or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience managing small to medium-sized LGV transport operations.
- Strong understanding of transport planning and vehicle routing.
- Good working knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High attention to detail.
Desirable Requirements
- CPC in National Road Haulage (training may be provided for the right candidate).
- Health and Safety management qualifications or training.
- Experience using transport management systems and fleet management software.

Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
