Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Fitter to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, as well as experience with heavy equipment and tools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards of safety and customer service.
Duties
- Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics on HGVs to identify faults or potential issues
- Perform repairs and maintenance on vehicle systems including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components
- Use fabrication, welding, soldering, and schematics to carry out complex repairs or modifications
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment such as excavators and forklifts safely and effectively
- Assist with assembly, disassembly, and replacement of vehicle parts or components
- Maintain accurate records of all work carried out in accordance with company procedures
- Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards before returning to service
- Support the team with heavy lifting tasks and equipment handling as required
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs or maintenance needs
Requirements
- Proven experience in vehicle or equipment repair, ideally within a heavy goods vehicle environment
- Strong electrical experience combined with mechanical knowledge of HGV systems
- Proficiency in reading schematics and technical diagrams
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly techniques
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and specialised machinery such as excavators or forklifts
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures for heavy equipment including excavators and forklifts
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
- Relevant qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering are desirable but not essential
- Experience with Jaltest computer preferred
- Company Van
- Roller Brake tester experience also prefered
