Electrician
About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced Electrician to support the Council's Repairs and Maintenance Service based at Council Offices, Southfield Road, Loughborough. This is a 3+ month contract where you will deliver high-quality, customer-focused electrical repairs, maintenance, testing, and installation services across council housing stock and associated properties.
You will work as part of a responsive Repairs Team, supporting team leaders and collaborating with other trades to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery in line with council standards and statutory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out electrical repairs, maintenance, testing, and installation work to a high standard
- Supporting Repairs Team Leaders in delivering the council's repairs and maintenance objectives
- Diagnosing electrical faults and determining appropriate repair or replacement solutions
- Working in a multi-skilled environment and assisting other trades where required
- Ensuring all work complies with BS7671, current electrical regulations, building regulations, and health & safety legislation
- Completing responsive repairs within agreed timescales
- Inspecting disrepair cases, assessing options, and carrying out appropriate remedial works
- Communicating professionally with tenants, confirming identity and explaining works to be undertaken
- Maintaining a strong customer-focused approach and delivering respectful service at all times
- Accurately recording all work completed, including materials used and follow-on tasks, using PDAs or council systems
- Reporting risks, variations, unsafe conditions, and safeguarding concerns promptly
- Maintaining safe working practices and consistently using appropriate PPE
- Ensuring work areas are left clean, safe, and secure upon completion
- Supporting out-of-hours emergency repairs as part of a rota system
- Managing collection, transport, and disposal of materials and waste in line with procedures
- Maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working order
- Attending training sessions, toolbox talks, and service improvement meetings as required
- Ensuring all information is handled securely in accordance with council policies
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation
- City & Guilds 2382 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations)
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection and Testing)
- City & Guilds 2377 (PAT Testing)
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a qualified Electrician in a maintenance or repairs environment
- Strong knowledge of current electrical regulations and building regulations (BS7671 / IEE standards)
- Experience delivering responsive repairs within target timescales
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs and installations
- Experience working in a customer-facing, service-driven environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-skilled team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with tenants and colleagues
- Confident using PDA/mobile job management systems and digital reporting tools
- Good understanding of health & safety and safeguarding procedures

- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Willingness to participate in out-of-hours emergency call-out rota
