Herstmonceux Castle Estate is a truly unique environment, bringing together heritage, education, hospitality, events and visitor experiences within a remarkable historic setting.
Home to Bader College, the overseas campus of Queen's University, Canada, the Estate welcomes students, visitors, members, conference delegates, event attendees and guests throughout the year.
We are seeking friendly, professional and proactive individuals to join our Reception & Ticket Office team.
About the Role
As one of the first points of contact for the Estate, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming, informative and positive experience for welcoming everyone who visits Herstmonceux Castle.
Whether greeting visitors, assisting students, supporting conference delegates, providing information about events and activities, processing admissions or helping people find their way around the Estate, you will be a trusted and approachable source of information and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for visitors, students, members, conference delegates, event attendees and guests.
- Provide information, guidance and assistance regarding Herstmonceux Castle Estate, its facilities, activities, events and services.
- Support reception, admissions and ticket office operations, including responding to enquiries and assisting with bookings and reservations.
- Process admissions, visitor transactions and payments accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and support a range of reception and administrative activities.
- Assist with the delivery of visitor services, events, tours and activities across the Estate.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Visitor Services, Security, Events and operational teams.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-organised environment for visitors, students, guests and colleagues.
This is a varied role that would suit someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in delivering excellent customer service and is confident using their initiative to respond to enquiries and contribute to the smooth operation of services across the Estate.

Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience working in a reception, visitor services, hospitality, tourism, retail or other customer-facing environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide information, guidance and assistance in a professional and approachable manner.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Basic IT skills and confidence using computer systems.

Working Pattern & Application Information
The role is contracted at 24 hours per week and is currently delivered across four 6-hour shifts on Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Whilst applications from candidates interested in undertaking the full 24-hour position are welcomed, our preference is to appoint two individuals on a job-share basis (approximately 12 hours per week each), recognising the benefits this provides in supporting service continuity and operational resilience.
