The opportunity
We are a completely independent network for mortgage and protection advisers with over 850 members across the UK. We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join the team to help and support our advisers, who we consider our customers.
Due to the nature of the responsibilities, the successful candidate will be required to work full-time at our Head Office in Knowle, Solihull. Due to the nature of certain responsibilities, no flexibility can be offered regarding this requirement.
This role is ideal for a proactive individual with experience in Financial Services, preferably within a risk function. While such experience is advantageous, we are also open to considering candidates without it.
We’re looking for someone energetic and analytical, capable of making informed decisions, adaptable to change, and able to thrive in high-pressure environments.

Responsibilities of an Underwriter
- To ensure the smooth running of the Network Fitness and Propriety Scheme, both at onboarding stage and on an ongoing basis.
- To assess suitability of new applicants to the network via our internal process which ensures sufficient information is collected to make informed decisions on the applicant’s fitness and propriety and their ability to meet Network and Regulatory standards.
- Submission of applications to the FCA via the Connect system.
- Management and maintenance of CRM Systems.
- To assist in the approval of Introducers.
- Collation of outgoing references.

Requirements of an Underwriter
- At least two years’ experience in an administrative role involving tasks that demand a high level of attention to detail.
- Previous experience in an underwriting role within a mortgage network is desirable.
- A strong understanding of mortgage networks is also preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Confident telephone manner.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
- Good team player, but with the ability to work under own initiative.
- Adaptable and confident in taking on new tasks.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyse detailed information to make informed risk decisions.
- Confident with working and collaborating with stakeholders across the business.
- Competent on Microsoft office suite i.e. Excel, Word etc.

Working hours of an Underwriter
- Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 a total of 36.25 hours per week.
- The successful candidate must work full-time from our Head Office in Knowle, Solihull, and should live within a reasonable commuting distance to allow for daily travel. This is strictly an office-based role with no flexibility, so if you are seeking remote or hybrid work, we kindly ask that you do not apply.

Salary of an Underwriter
- £24,000- £26,000 dependant on experience.
- To be considered for our higher salary band, candidates must hold all the required qualifications and experience outlined above and have previously performed the same role within another mortgage network.
