Job Title:
Carpentry/Multi-Skilled Railway Operative
Location:
Train Stations across Kent and Sussex
Job Purpose:
To carry out a wide range of repair, maintenance, and minor installation works across railway station buildings and infrastructure, ensuring stations remain safe, operational, compliant, and presentable for passengers and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake planned and reactive maintenance across railway stations, including buildings, platforms, and station facilities
- Carry out multi-traderepairs, including:
- Carpentry (doors, locks, fencing, minor joinery)
- Basic plumbing (leaks, taps, toilets, drainage)
- Painting, decorating, and surface repairs
- Groundworks and minor civil repairs
- Inspect station assets and identify defects, reporting issues in line with company procedures
- Respond to emergency and safety-critical faults to minimise disruption to station operations
- Ensure all work complies with railwaysafetystandards, company policies, and relevant legislation
- Maintain a high standard of house keeping and site cleanliness
- Complete job records, risk assessments, and work reports using handheld or paper systems
- Liaise professionally with station staff, contractors, and members of the public
- Use tools, plant, and materials safely and correctly
- Support out-of-hours, weekend, or night work as required
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Work in accordance with RailwayGroupStandards, RAMS, and safe systems of work
- Hold and maintain relevant railcompetencies (e.g. PTS or equivalent)
- Report accidents, near misses, and hazards promptly
Skills & Experience Essentials:
- Proven experience in a multi-skilled maintenance.
- Competence across multiple trades (carpentry, plumbing, general maintenance)
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Full UK manual driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience working within a railway or construction environment
- PTS / Sentinel or willingness to obtain

Additional Information
- Travel between sites across Kent and Sussex will be required
- Drug & alcohol testing will be required in line with railway regulations

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £16.25-£20.00 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Ashford TN26 3EQ
