Band 5 Custody Nurse / Paramedic – Northampton
Salary: £37,000 per annum, rising to £38,110 after a successful six-month probation
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a proactive Band 5 Custody Nurse or Paramedic to join a dynamic and compassionate healthcare team in Northampton. In this role, you’ll work autonomously within custody contracts, treating patients and detainees with a wide range of healthcare needs. Your expertise will contribute directly to improving health outcomes and ensuring the safe, ethical, and effective management of those in custody.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to calls from the control centre, providing high-standard clinical assessments and care to detainees.
- Assess fitness for detention, interviews, release, or transfer, while delivering healthcare interventions for minor illnesses or injuries.
- Conduct forensic examinations, document and offer opinions on injuries, and collect DNA evidence as required.
- Examine and treat police officers or staff injured on duty, maintaining accurate records.
- Collect specimens in accordance with legislative and evidential requirements, ensuring compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
- Prepare written statements within 7–10 days of request and provide oral testimony in court when needed.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
- Assess individuals for alcohol or drug intoxication, withdrawal, mental health, and learning disabilities.
- Support the development of medical services in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and Head of Clinical Operations.
- Promote equality, diversity, dignity, respect, information governance, and safeguarding in all aspects of practice.
- Use the RADAR System efficiently and in line with company protocols.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (Adult) or Paramedic with current NMC or HCPC registration.
- Minimum of two years post-qualification experience (or three years, depending on the contract).
- Background in A&E, ITU, EAU, SAU, or similar acute settings is advantageous.
- Valid UK driving licence and access to a car.
