Location: Staffordshire (community-based provision in and around Stafford/Stone)
Hours: 2 hours per week (1 x 2-hour session, flexible weekdays)
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and creative Male Specialist SEN Tutor / Enrichment Mentor to support a Year 5 pupil with a complex SEND profile through a bespoke, community-based alternative provision package.
This role is not a traditional tutoring position. The successful candidate will deliver highly personalised, therapeutic and engagement-led sessions that build confidence, communication, emotional regulation and life skills through practical activities such as:
- PE and outdoor activities
- Cooking and food preparation
- Music and rhythm-based activities
- Creative arts and sensory play
- Technology-based engagement
- Community-based learning experiences
The provision is designed to support holistic development and re-engagement with learning in a safe, low-demand environment.
About the Learner
The pupil is a bright and engaging child with interests in football, gaming, outdoor activities, animals and painting. Pupil responds best to trusted adults, movement-based learning and flexible, relationship-led approaches.
Pupil presents with a range of SEND needs across:
- Communication & Interaction
- Cognition & Learning
- Social, Emotional & Mental Health
- Sensory processing needs
Sessions require patience, flexibility and strong behaviour support strategies.
The Role
You will:
- Deliver 1:1 community-based alternative provision
- Plan engaging, sensory-aware sessions linked to EHCP outcomes
- Build trust and positive relationships over time
- Support emotional regulation, self-esteem and communication skills
- Gradually develop focus, resilience and engagement through practical activities
- Adapt expectations and approaches in response to the pupil’s presentation
- Provide progress updates and maintain safeguarding records
- Work collaboratively with family and professionals involved in the provision
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND, SEMH or behaviours that challenge
- Is calm, emotionally resilient and non-judgemental
- Understands trauma-informed and relational practice
- Can think creatively and adapt provision in the moment
- Enjoys active, practical and community-based learning
- Has experience in areas such as mentoring, youth work, SEN tutoring, sports coaching, outdoor education or therapeutic support
- Is confident managing risk and maintaining professional boundaries
- Holds a full UK driving licence and can travel to community venues
A background in any of the following would be highly beneficial:
- SEN teaching or tutoring
- Behaviour mentoring
- Youth work
- Sports coaching
- Therapeutic or nurture-based provision
- Forest school / outdoor learning
- Creative arts or music facilitation
Essential Requirements
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Safeguarding training
- Experience working with children with additional needs
- Ability to provide 2 professional references
