Location & Working Pattern
- Mondays & Tuesdays: Office-based at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, The General Offices, Steelworks Road, Ebbw Vale, NP23 6DN
- Remaining days: Hybrid working (home working and site visits)
- Flexible working hours: 7am – 5pm (standard hours 8am – 4pm)
- Mileage paid for approved site visits from nearest council building
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in managing asbestos compliance across local authority buildings. You will support planned maintenance programmes and ensure all statutory testing and inspections are completed to a high standard.
The successful candidate will build on existing work and help drive continued improvement within the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage asbestos compliance across all council buildings
- Ensure adherence to asbestos regulations, legislation, British Standards, CDM Regulations and Codes of Practice
- Carry out and oversee asbestos re-inspections, Mansafe testing, safety glazing surveys, and servicing of roller shutters and automatic doors
- Manage statutory testing schedules and ensure surveys are completed at required intervals
- Oversee works arising from survey reports and ensure timely completion
- Conduct site visits to ensure contractor compliance with council procedures
- Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, HSE, consultants, and internal teams regarding asbestos and compliance matters
- Attend meetings with senior management, clients, and external agencies
- Support health & safety compliance across all works and projects
- Assist with minor works project management and building surveying duties
- Contribute to departmental planning, policies, and continuous improvement
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and industry standards through CPD
Requirements
- Experience in construction project management or building compliance
- Knowledge of asbestos management and statutory compliance
- Strong understanding of health & safety regulations
- Ability to manage data and use Excel and databases effectively
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
