Brief:
Support Worker required in Felixstowe, Suffolk to help assist and provide respite to a 6-year-old boy with severe autism. The support worker will be employed by and will be responsible to the parents of the young boy, providing respite care. The role will take place within the family’s household, and involve days out accessing the community, which includes going for walks and to the beach to paddle in the water.
We are seeking a support worker who is kind and patient and can engage with the young boy through play. The support worker will need to have excellent communication skills as child is non-verbal, so will need to be capable to respond to the child’s needs.
The role will require to support the young boy to drink his milk through a beaker tippee cup.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· To plan activities in the home to encourage play and keep me active
· To take me out to access the community (especially swimming)
· To support me by filling up my cup so I can have my milk

Essential Criteria
· Previous experience working with young children who have SEND needs – specifically those who are non-verbal and have severe autism.
· Good communication skills
· Reliable, trustworthy and patient
· Flexible
Desirable Criteria
· Training/qualifications in supporting people who are non-verbal and have severe autism.
· Able to get along with the family as well as our son
· Able to work alone and without supervision
· Like the beach and swimming/paddling
Summary terms and conditions
· Hours, days and times of work:
· 2 hours available per week or 4 hours every fortnight on a Saturday
· Pay rate: £12.71
· You will be responsible to mum and dad
· Annual leave: The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work normally done during 5.6 weeks (statutory entitlement).
· Expenses: You will be reimbursed for prior agreed expenses incurred as part of the role.
· Sick pay: I do not operate a private sick pay scheme but provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
· Pension: I do not operate a private pension scheme but I will fulfil my statutory obligations via the NEST pension scheme.
