We are looking for an experienced and proactive Payroll Manager to oversee and elevate our UK payroll operations, ensuring our growing workforce is paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with UK legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Payroll Management: Oversee the timely and accurate processing of monthly payroll for all UK employees (salaried, hourly, and warehouse/logistics staff).
- Compliance & HMRC Reporting: Ensure strict compliance with UK tax laws, HMRC regulations, RTI (Real Time Information) submissions, and pension auto-enrolment duties.
- Benefits & Pension Administration: Manage company benefits schemes and workplace pension contributions (e.g., NEST or equivalent), ensuring accurate deductions and reporting.
- System & Process Optimization: Evaluate current payroll systems and processes, identifying areas for automation, scaling, and integration with HRIS and time-attendance tools.
- Vendor Management: (If applicable) Manage relationships with external payroll bureaus or software providers to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Query Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for employee payroll escalations, resolving complex queries with empathy and professionalism.
- Year-End Processing: Lead the year-end payroll activities, ensuring accurate production and distribution of P60s, P11Ds, and HMRC year-end declarations.
- Reporting & Auditing: Provide regular and ad-hoc payroll cost reports to Finance and HR leadership; support internal and external financial audits.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of dedicated payroll experience in the UK, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Industry Background: Experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, Retail, or Fast-Paced Multi-site environments is highly desirable (dealing with shift patterns, overtime, and variable pay).
- Qualifications: CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification or equivalent is preferred but not essential if backed by strong experience.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and hands-on experience with major UK payroll software (e.g., Sage, ADP, Workday, or BrightPay).
- Legislation Expertise: Deep, up-to-date knowledge of UK statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), student loans, and tax codes.
