What is the role?
As an early years Kitchen Assistant, you will support the kitchen team with preparing, serving and clearing away meals and snacks for the children. You will maintain a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen, while also supporting the wider nursery team when lunch cover is required.
What are the key responsibilities of the role?
- Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and snacks for children
- Follow the menus, dietary requirements and allergy procedures carefully
- Check food labels and ingredients to ensure meals are safe for each child
- Support the kitchen team when receiving deliveries and organising supplies
- Keep the kitchen clean, tidy and safe at all times
- Wash and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas
- Support with lunch service, including setting up, serving and clearing away
- Work closely with nursery staff to ensure children's needs are met safely
- Provide lunch cover in nursery rooms when required to help maintain ratios
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety and safeguarding procedures
You should apply if you have...
- Previous experience in a kitchen, nursery kitchen, school kitchen or childcare setting
- A good understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling
- Awareness of allergies, dietary requirements and cross-contamination
- A careful and responsible approach when preparing and serving food
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
Are there any requirements for the role?
- Experience within early years, a nursery, school kitchen or similar setting is desirable
- Food hygiene knowledge or training is desirable
- Must be willing to complete relevant background checks
- Must have the right to work in the UK - we currently do not offer any sponsorship
