About the Person You’ll Be Supporting & What the Role Involves
You will be supporting a young man in his 20's with complex physical and learning disabilities, who is fully dependent on others for all aspects of his care. He is non‑verbal and communicates through simple closed‑question choices, so you’ll need to be patient, engaging, and confident building meaningful connections without relying on speech. He enjoys music, fun interactions, and being around people close to his age, and responds best to Support Workers who take time to understand his preferences and encourage independence through choice‑making.
Your role will be central in promoting dignity, comfort, and quality of life. Key responsibilities and support needs include:
-
Personal care - full assistance with washing, dressing, hygiene, and daily routines
-
Manual handling - he is non‑weight bearing and requires safe, supported movement
-
PEG feeding - supporting all nutrition, fluids, and medication via Gastrostomy
-
Epilepsy support - monitoring and responding appropriately to his needs
-
Communication support - encouraging choice‑making through simple, closed questions
-
Community engagement - supporting activities at home and out in the community
-
Relationship building - creating fun, meaningful, and empowering interactions
-
Promoting independence - drawing out his preferences and supporting decision‑making
This role is ideal for someone energetic, creative, and resilient - someone who can bring joy, patience, and perseverance to every interaction, helping him live a fulfilling and meaningful life.
