Summary
The Gateman / Welfare Cleaner / Materials Store Assistant is a multi-functional site support role responsible for site access control, welfare facility maintenance, compound housekeeping and materials management. The position supports the safe, secure and efficient operation of a construction project, working closely with the Site Manager, subcontractors and suppliers.
Responsibilities
1. Gateman Responsibilities
- Control access to and from the site, ensuring only authorised personnel and visitors enter.
- Check and record deliveries, visitors, and vehicles entering or leaving the site.
- Maintain the site sign-in and sign-out register.
- Direct visitors and delivery drivers to the appropriate locations.
- Monitor site security and report any suspicious activities or incidents to management.
- Ensure gates are opened and closed at designated times.
- Maintain a professional and courteous manner when dealing with staff, contractors, and visitors.
- Enforce site rules, health and safety procedures, and security requirements.
2. Compound and Welfare Cleaning Responsibilities
- Keep welfare facilities, including offices, canteens, toilets, drying rooms, and changing areas, clean and hygienic.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste in accordance with site procedures.
- Replenish consumables such as toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels, and cleaning products.
- Sweep and maintain the site compound, walkways, and communal areas to ensure a tidy environment.
- Report any damage, defects, or maintenance issues within welfare facilities to site management.
- Ensure cleaning equipment and materials are stored safely after use.
- Comply with all health and safety and environmental requirements while carrying out cleaning duties.
3. Materials Storage Management Responsibilities
- Receive and check incoming materials and deliveries against delivery notes.
- Store materials in designated locations to maintain an organised and safe compound.
- Keep accurate records of materials issued, used, and remaining in stock.
- Monitor stock levels and notify management when materials require replenishment.
- Ensure valuable or hazardous materials are securely stored and protected from damage or theft.
- Maintain clear access routes and good housekeeping within storage areas.
- Assist site teams with locating and issuing materials as required.
- Conduct regular inspections of storage areas to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
General Responsibilities
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and site rules.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Attend site inductions, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
- Work cooperatively with site management and other trades to support the efficient operation of the project.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Site Manager.
