Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Deputy Room Leader to join our dedicated childcare team. The successful candidate will support the Room Leader in delivering high-quality early childhood education and care within a nurturing environment. This role involves working closely with children, staff, and parents to ensure a safe, stimulating, and inclusive setting that promotes children's development and well-being. The Deputy Room Leader will also take on leadership responsibilities, assisting in the daily management of the nursery and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Room Leader in planning and implementing engaging educational activities tailored to children's individual needs.
- Support the supervision and organisation of staff within the room, fostering a positive team environment.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times, adhering to health and safety policies.
- Maintain accurate records of children's progress, attendance, and developmental milestones.
- Contribute to creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that encourages children's curiosity and learning.
- Support with daily routines such as meal times, nappy changing, and outdoor play.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's development and daily activities.
- Lead by example in demonstrating excellent childcare practices and professional behaviour.
- Assist in organising staff rotas and cover when necessary, ensuring consistent staffing levels.
- Support compliance with all regulatory requirements including safeguarding procedures.
Skills
- Proven management and leadership skills within a childcare or nursery setting.
- Extensive experience working with children, preferably within early childhood education or childcare environments.
- Strong understanding of nursery procedures, child development stages, and early years curriculum frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking initiative independently.
- Organised with good time management skills to balance multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Valid driving licence is desirable for transporting children or attending off-site activities.
