Applied AI Solution Engineer

About Beyond
Beyond is an AI-native consultancy. We imagine, advise, create and forward-deploy AI-native, multimodal products built for where business meets the customer – frontline operations, commerce and marketing. We work with the world’s biggest retail, FMCG, luxury and consumer brands to ship production-grade AI in weeks, not quarters.
AI has changed the clock speed of business. Frontier capability advances every month, but the value reaching frontline teams and customers is barely moving – and strategy decks don’t close that gap. Only shipped products do.
Our mission is to push ourselves and our clients to unlock new levels of performance and value at the frontier of technology.
We work in three ways: subscribing clients to our production-ready AI Blueprints; forward-deploying and customising those Blueprints to a client’s frontline reality; and co-innovating entirely new capabilities at the frontier. Our proprietary agentic operating system, the Infinity Engine, lets small teams move at a pace traditional consultancies and SaaS vendors can’t match.
About the role
As an Applied AI Solution Engineer, you’ll embed in small, mixed teams of Beyond and client engineers and build LLM-powered products — agents, copilots, voice systems — for the customer frontline: operations, commerce and marketing. You’ll be hands-on end-to-end, taking a problem from first prototype to a live, reliable system in weeks.
The model is the easy part. The real challenge — and the reward — is making AI work in the messy reality of an enterprise: woven into the systems people already use, and shaped into experiences they genuinely want to. That’s where the craft lives, and where you’ll have real impact.
There’s room to grow fast here — into leading teams, owning solutions end-to-end, and advising senior clients directly.
Responsibilities
We’re after a combination of the strengths below, not all of them. If the role excites you, apply.
Build and ship AI products
You’ll own the design and build of LLM-powered products for the customer frontline — retail operations, commerce and marketing — and get them into production in weeks, not quarters. Hands-on from first prototype to live system.
Make it reliable and responsible
Make the things we ship dependable — rigorous evaluation, testing and safe-by-design practices are part of building, not a phase bolted on at the end. That extends to holding the line on data privacy, bias minimisation and compliance, and helping grow Beyond’s thinking on responsible AI.
Partner with clients and earn their trust
Sit inside our clients’ world to understand the real frontline problem, then show — by building — how AI changes the outcome, translating between business need and working software in both directions. We’re not body-shop engineers: we build durable relationships with senior stakeholders and constructively challenge them to become AI leaders on their frontline.
Support clients beyond launch
Help clients adopt and get value from what we build, and keep it running well once it’s live.
Collaborate across Beyond
Partner with non-technical colleagues — strategy, design, commercial — so what we ship lands as an integrated product, not an engineering artefact.
Raise the technical bar
Set the standard for how we build: mentor engineers around you, share what you learn, and lift the team’s craft as we scale.
Stay at the frontier
Frontier capability moves every month. You track it, test it, and fold what’s genuinely useful into the products we ship.
Indicators you’ll be a good fit
We’re looking for a driven, ambitious and AI-fluent engineer, typically with 5-7 years of professional engineering experience.
Our strongest engineers bring hands-on, production-grade experience across several of the following:
● Designing and shipping production AI solutions end-to-end — from solution design through deployment, and owning their reliability in production
● Building consumer-grade web and mobile apps — polished, user-facing products built with frameworks like React and Node.js
● LLM application development — primarily on Google Vertex AI / Gemini, with fluency across providers (Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Groq, Mistral, Anthropic): prompt engineering, structured / schema-constrained outputs, and tool / function calling
● Agentic systems and orchestration — multi-step, stateful workflows with LangGraph and bespoke orchestration, tool use, and MCP integrations
● Retrieval and RAG — embeddings, vector stores (pgvector, BigQuery), hybrid (semantic + keyword) retrieval, chunking, and multimodal document extraction (e.g. LlamaParse / Gemini)
● Real-time voice & conversational AI — STT / TTS, VAD and turn-taking, streaming and latency optimisation (e.g. LiveKit, Deepgram, Cartesia)
● Evaluation and LLMOps — systematic evals including LLM-as-judge and regression gates in CI, observability (OpenTelemetry / Prometheus / Cloud Monitoring), cost control, and prompt / model versioning
● Strong Python and SQL, and production TypeScript / Node — a first-class backend and agent language here, not just for client integrations
● Cloud-native delivery on GCP — Cloud Run, Vertex AI, BigQuery, Firestore, Pub/Sub, Cloud Scheduler / Functions; Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Workload Identity Federation), Docker. Exposure to Azure OpenAI and AWS-signed integrations a plus
● Building microservices and event-driven data pipelines — Pub/Sub, idempotency and dead-letter queues, and batch / ingestion pipelines on BigQuery
● Production reliability for money-path and safety-path systems — idempotency, dead-letter queues, layered monitoring and alerting, and graceful degradation
● Integrating with messy enterprise and third-party systems — e.g. Oracle Simphony POS and partner APIs with custom auth
● Pragmatic model strategy — prompting and retrieval first; fine-tuning only where it earns its place, plus strong analytical problem-solving and translating ambiguous client problems into working solutions
We stay deliberately tech-agnostic — we reach for whatever best solves the client’s problem — so we value people who can pick up an unfamiliar stack and get productive fast.
Genuinely excited by AI
We exist because we believe AI can drive transformative change across whole industries. We want people who share that conviction and its power for good.
Curious and self-teaching
Staying at the frontier means proactively learning, experimenting and chasing the hardest unsolved problems in the industry. We celebrate that curiosity and stay genuinely open to new ideas and better ways of working.
Self-sufficient and collaborative
Beyond moves quickly, so you can take an ambiguous problem and run with it, operating independently and staying effective in fast-moving situations. Just as importantly, you know when to bring others in — sharing progress early, inviting input, and lifting the whole team as you go.
Comfortable front of house
Our technical expertise is what clients are buying, and our engineers are the face of it: trusted ambassadors who sit alongside clients and lead the conversation. You communicate clearly, making complex AI simple to grasp, and bring the business acumen to connect what we build to efficiency, cost savings and new opportunities on the frontline.
Principled
Our people are the first line of defence against AI’s risks. We want clear-eyed awareness of privacy, model bias and societal impact baked into how you work.
Package
● Generous holiday entitlement
● Life policy
● Pension
Location
London-based and hybrid. The work is client-facing, so expect time on-site — typically up to three days a week at client offices, depending on the project.
