Student arcade staff (e.g. when home from university, or students living nearby)
We employ several students who work during the Easter, Summer & (occasionally) Christmas school holiday periods when home from university, and we are now looking to recruit an additional student or two for the upcoming Summer period and beyond. During the holiday periods above, we can typically offer 18-24 hours a week (or more).
While we have historically recruited students returning home from university, we are also open to recruiting students who live in the area permanently who may be able to work one or two shifts during the week whilst doing their studies, and more during holiday periods in line with the above. Further information about the typical duties involved is below.
About us, and the staff roles working in the arcades
We operate two amusement arcades and an aquarium attraction in Matlock Bath, and are a long-established business, having operated in the village for more than 50 years.
We are looking for an honest and dependable person capable of working within a small team, who is flexible enough to work a variety of shifts of between 6hr and 12hrs, including day shifts, evenings and weekends until 10pm (and sometimes a little later). Shifts are not fixed and can vary each week, and can be a mixture of 10am-4pm, 4-10pm+, 10am-10pm+ or 10am until 5/6pm+ including at the weekend. It is important that candidates can get to & from Matlock Bath in line with our opening & closing hours (10am-10pm) - as noted above candidates living outside of the immediate Matlock area will only be progressed if they have their own transport.
This is a 'hands-on' role, and the successful candidate will be required to work on the arcade floor, in our cash desks and at our aquarium as and when needed. We can be extremely busy during peak periods and need a personable person who is happy to be on their feet & 'roll their sleeves up' to get the job done as part of a small team. The staff job itself is fairly straightforward and involves keeping the business clean and tidy, our machines well stocked, doing basic admin and helping customers with any problems. At our aquarium, and in the cash desks you may be involved in handling cash, using a till and undertaking other miscellaneous tasks as required, and 'hands-on' training will be provided.
Please note that as a gambling business, the law says we can only employ those aged eighteen and above, and we will only consider applications from candidates who we consider to live within a reasonable commuting distance of Matlock Bath.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Available throughout the Summer school holiday periods, with no 'time away' or holidays already booked
- Ability to work daytime shifts, evening shifts until 10:30pm (ish) including weekends,
- No restrictions in availability (other than University commitments during term time)
- Strong customer service skills with a focus on customer satisfaction
- Cash handling experience is an advantage
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude towards collaboration
