Lead Service & Installation Engineer – Movable Walls
Location: Runcorn, Cheshire (Nationwide Travel Required)Salary:£40,000 - £48,000 Basic + Company Van + Expenses + Performance-Related Commission

About the Role
Avant Movable Walls is seeking an experienced Lead Service & Installation Engineer to join our team based in Runcorn, Cheshire. This is a hands-on role for an engineer capable of independently managing the service, maintenance, repair and installation of movable wall systems across the UK.
You will work on a wide variety of sites including active construction projects, schools, hotels, conference centres, commercial offices and other high-end finished buildings. The successful candidate will be trusted to represent Avant Movable Walls professionally, deliver exceptional workmanship and protect customer property at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, repair and install movable wall and operable partition systems.
- Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical adjustments, repairs and component replacements.
- Commission new installations and ensure systems operate to manufacturer specifications.
- Work independently, managing your own diary, workload and nationwide travel schedule.
- Carry out site surveys and identify future repair and replacement opportunities.
- Complete digital service reports, photographs, RAMS and all associated documentation.
- Build strong customer relationships and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Identify opportunities for repairs, upgrades and new installations.
- Support and mentor junior engineers where required.
- Maintain the highest standards of workmanship, professionalism and safety.
Working Environment

The successful candidate must be equally comfortable working within live construction environments and premium finished buildings where attention to detail is essential.
Site Management & Damage Prevention
You will be expected to:
- Plan and set out every work area before commencing work.
- Assess potential risks to surrounding finishes before starting.
- Protect floors, walls, ceilings, glazing, furniture and adjacent finishes using appropriate protection.
- Maintain exceptional housekeeping throughout every project.
- Photograph and report any existing damage before commencing works.
- Handle movable wall panels and components safely using approved manual handling techniques.
- Leave every site clean, fully operational and free from avoidable damage.
- Minimise disruption to customers and building occupants throughout the works.
Health & Safety
Health and safety is fundamental to this role.
You will:
- Work safely in accordance with company RAMS and site-specific requirements.
- Comply with all principal contractor rules and permit systems.
- Wear and maintain appropriate PPE.
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments where required.
- Work safely alongside other contractors and trades.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and safe working practices at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience servicing, repairing and installing mechanical systems, or proven experience within a transferable engineering or construction-related role.
- Previous experience servicing, repairing and installing movable walls or operable partition systems is preferred and will be a distinct advantage.
- Valid CSCS Card (essential).
- SSSTS qualification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Based within a commutable distance of Runcorn, Cheshire.
- Ability to travel nationwide with regular overnight stays.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read construction and technical drawings.
- Experience working safely on construction sites and within occupied finished buildings.
- Strong understanding of site protection, manual handling and damage prevention.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
