Great opportunity within a well-established and growing civil and structural engineering consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join their Gloucester office.
This is an excellent role for a Senior or Principal level Civil Engineer looking to take ownership of technical delivery across a portfolio of projects, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in the continued growth and success of the business.
The company is highly active across a diverse range of sectors including commercial housing, social housing, care homes, renewable energy (particularly wind farms), industrial and commercial developments, remediation projects, and has aspirations to further grow its presence within the rail sector. Projects are delivered across the UK, with a strong focus on South Wales and the West of England.
The Role
As Principal Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical delivery of multiple projects, ensuring engineering quality, accuracy, and commercial performance are consistently maintained to a high standard.
You will take a hands-on role in both design and reporting, while also supporting and guiding the wider engineering team and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the technical delivery of civil engineering projects across multiple sectors
- Produce and review drainage, highways, and civil infrastructure designs
- Ensure design quality and compliance with relevant standards and approval processes
- Manage and support project commercial performance
- Mentor and support junior members of the design team
- Liaise confidently with clients, local authorities, and utilities providers
- Contribute to project planning and technical decision-making
What we’re looking for
- Around 8+ years post-graduate experience in Civil Engineering
- Strong background in highways, drainage, and infrastructure design
- Experience taking responsibility for project delivery and design outputs
- Strong understanding of adoption procedures for highways and drainage authorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
- Chartered Engineer or working towards preferred but not essential
- Strong client-facing and leadership skills
- Full UK driving licence required
