Job summary
Primrose Surgery have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Medicines Management Co-ordinator / Pharmacy Technician to join our practice for 16 hours per week.
The post holder will help standardise the management of prescriptions by becoming a single point of contact for medication and prescription requests and queries working along with our GPs and clinical pharmacist.
The role will support improvements in medicines safety by helping to prevent prescribing errors, reduce medication waste and contain costs. They will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, liaising with GPs, pharmacists, reception staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure requests and queries are managed efficiently, improving both patient experience and health outcomes.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of general practice operations, including proficiency in clinical systems such as EMIS Web.
Understanding of drug names and clinical terminology, with experience in monitoring-controlled drugs, including high-risk patients.
Ability to work independently, using initiative while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Act as the first point of contact for patients and community pharmacists regarding repeat/acute queries.
Process all prescription requests accurately and efficiently in line with practice protocols.
Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, addressing medication-related queries and concerns.
Proactively manage and maintain the repeat prescribing system, ensuring compliance with practice procedures.
Work collaboratively with the Medicines Management Team, completing assigned tasks and attending regular monthly comms meetings.
Signpost acute medication requests to appropriate clinicians when necessary.
Handle and action medication-related tasks, including urgent and routine requests.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records including updating hospital and discharge letter including coding in line with practice policies.

Essential
- Knowledge of repeat prescribing processes.
- Familiarity with EMIS web.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
Desirable
- Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting
- Good standard of general education
- GCE/GCSE Mathematics
- GCE/GCSE English
- IT literate including experience in using Word and Excel.
Pay: £12.97-£14.62 per hour
