Mechanical Engineer / Fitter (Recycling Machinery)

Hours: 40.5 hours per week
Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday's 8am-3pm
Salary: £37,908-£46,332 per annum basic (£18-22 per hour) DOE + Van + Excellent increased earning potential with overtime @ 1X rate during the week and 2X for any weekend work.

The Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer / Fitter to work on mobile shredders, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components.
You will split your time between:
- The workshop, carrying out repairs, overhauls, and reconditioning of shredding equipment
- Customer sites nationwide, performing planned maintenance, diagnostics, and reactive breakdown support
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving, and working on heavy mechanical equipment in real-world environments.
Example of Responsibilities
- Mechanical repair, servicing, and reconditioning of mobile shredders
- Diagnosing faults across hydraulic, mechanical, and power transmission systems
- Attending breakdowns and carrying out on-site repairs
- Conducting site inspections and planned maintenance
- Identifying faults and implementing effective, safe repair solutions
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service
Experience/ Skills Required
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Proven experience in a mechanical engineering or fitter role, ideally within recycling, waste, quarrying, or heavy plant
- Experience with Hydraulics, Ability to weld, Cut Metal with Oxy-acetylene, Arc air gouger would be advantageous however not essential
- You will need to be flexible to travel with some overnight stays when required
