Purpose of Role
As an HGV Class 1 Driver you will be responsible for safely and efficiently driving heavy goods vehicles (C+E / Class I), delivering and collecting goods to/from customers and depots. You’ll uphold company standards in safety, compliance, and customer service, contributing to the smooth logistics operation of our Client.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate assigned HGVs (Class 1 licence: C+E), ensuring all journeys are completed safely and on time.
- Perform daily vehicle checks (pre- and post-shift), report defects or issues per policy.
- Ensure compliance with Driver CPC, tachograph regulations, driver hours, and all road transport legislation.
- Load / unload goods where required (within safety and legal limits), ensuring goods are secured for transport.
- Maintain accurate paperwork: delivery notes, log books, mileage / fuel / toll receipts, tachograph records.
- Communicate with the transport / dispatch office about any delays, issues, or required support.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle: interior and exterior.
- Represent the company professionally with customers, clients, and other road users.
- Adhere to all health & safety requirements, including PPE, lifting training, risk assessments, etc.
- Occasionally overnight trips or long haul, if the route requires.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Valid Class 1 (C+E) driving licence.
- Minimum required HGV driving experience (e.g. 1-2 years driving Class 1 vehicle).
- Up-to-date Driver CPC / Certificate of Professional Competence.
- Valid tachograph / digital card.
- Clean driving record (with minimal penalty points, no recent disqualifications).
- Good geographical knowledge (UK roads), ability to plan routes.
- Strong time management skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Physically fit: ability to assist with loading/unloading, occasionally handling heavy or bulky items.
Working Hours & Conditions
- Typical shifts: early start (often around 04:00-06:00), may be long days, occasional weekend work.
- Overnight stays possible for long journey assignments.
- Dependant on route allocations, may start and finish at different locations.
- Subject to weather / traffic / customer scheduling variances.

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled HGV I Day/Night Tramper to join our team on a full-time basis. This role involves operating HGV I vehicles for the transportation of goods across various locations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in commercial driving and have experience as a delivery driver. You will be responsible for ensuring timely and safe deliveries while adhering to all road safety regulations.
Duties
- Operate HGV I vehicles for the transportation of goods to designated locations.
- Ensure the secure loading and unloading of cargo, maintaining safety standards at all times.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is roadworthy.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and documentation as required by company policies.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while on the road, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members regarding delivery schedules and any issues that may arise during transit.
Skills
- Proven experience in flatbed driving, with a strong understanding of load securing techniques.
- Valid HGV I licence with a clean driving record is essential.
- Previous experience in commercial driving or as a delivery driver is highly desirable.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work flexible hours, including day or night shifts as required.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise effectively with team members and clients.
