Are you passionate about supporting people to live independently and improve their quality of life? We have an exciting opportunity to join the Devon Sensory Team as a Sensory Rehabilitation Officer, working across West and Mid Devon.
About the Role
As part of our county-wide team, you will support individuals with significant hearing and sight loss, helping them navigate daily challenges and maximise independence. This is a rewarding, person-centred role focused on preventative work, where you’ll provide:
- Specialist information, advice, and signposting
- Practical solutions to manage sight and hearing loss
- Rehabilitation strategies to promote confidence and independence
You will carry out assessments of needs and personal goals, meeting people both face-to-face and over the phone, and develop creative, practical solutions such as:
- Demonstrating specialist equipment
- Coaching individuals in adaptive techniques
- Offering guidance to overcome communication barriers
About You
You’ll be a compassionate and proactive individual with:
- Excellent communication skills, especially when working with people who use alternative means of communication and those who may find conversation challenging.
- A practical, problem-solving approach
- Confidence to work independently and make sound decisions
- The ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and empathy
- Willingness and ability to travel across rural areas of Devon
You’ll also work collaboratively as part of integrated adult social care, alongside colleagues in health, social care and the voluntary sector, using a holistic, strengths-based approach.
Skills & Experience
- A Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards it
- Experience in social care or the voluntary sector (desirable)
- Knowledge of hearing and/or sight impairment is helpful—but not essential, as full training will be provided
