Talent Link Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Product Development Upholsterer to join their creative and quality-focused team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled upholsterer who enjoys more than standard production work and wants to be involved in developing new furniture designs from concept through to prototype.
The role would suit someone with strong upholstery skills, excellent attention to detail and a genuine interest in product development, problem-solving and craftsmanship. You will be working closely with design, engineering and production teams to help turn ideas, drawings and design briefs into high-quality, manufacturable upholstered products.
The Role
As a Product Development Upholsterer, you will be involved in producing prototypes and one-off pieces, testing materials and construction methods, and helping to refine designs before they move into production.
You will play an important role in ensuring new products are practical to manufacture, comfortable, durable and finished to a high standard.
Key Duties
- Produce high-quality upholstery prototypes from drawings, sketches and design briefs
- Work with fabrics, leather, foams, fillings and other upholstery materials
- Create and adjust patterns and templates for new product designs
- Advise on materials, construction methods and product feasibility
- Support the development and improvement of upholstery techniques
- Work with designers and product developers to solve technical challenges
- Help improve comfort, durability and manufacturability of products
- Support the handover of prototypes into production
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, quality and workshop practice
- Contribute ideas for product improvement and process development
About You
The ideal candidate will have previous upholstery experience, ideally within product development, prototyping, bespoke furniture, one-off pieces or high-quality upholstery production.
You will be confident working from drawings, CADs, sketches or design briefs and able to use your upholstery knowledge to bring new ideas to life.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience as an upholsterer
- Strong knowledge of upholstery techniques, materials and construction methods
- Experience producing prototypes, bespoke pieces or one-off products
- Ability to work from technical drawings, sketches, CADs or design briefs
- Experience working with fabrics, leather, foams and fillings
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Good problem-solving skills and a practical approach
- Ability to work collaboratively with design, development and production teams
- A positive attitude and willingness to try new methods and ideas

Pay: Up to £45,000.00 per year
