Retail Community Store/Hub Manager

Key Aims of the Role
● To manage and lead the Paul Sartori Community Store as a flagship retail and community hub, maximising income through both retail sales and community fundraising activities.
● To act as an ambassador for Paul Sartori Foundation within the community, building strong relationships with local stakeholders, businesses, and supporters to widen the charity’s reach and supporter base.
● To inspire, coach and develop a diverse team of staff and volunteers, ensuring they provide excellent customer service and actively contribute to fundraising and community engagement targets.
● To oversee all operational, financial and compliance aspects of the store, ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, customers, and community partners.
● To work collaboratively with colleagues in Marketing, Fundraising and across the wider organisation to deliver joined-up initiatives that generate sustainable income for Paul Sartori Foundation’s Hospice at Home services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Retail Operations and Income Generation
● Lead the commercial running of the Community Store, including merchandising, stock management, pricing, gift aid, and online sales.
● Ensure all sales and fundraising targets are met or exceeded, including income from donated goods, retail gift aid, ticket sales, in-store promotions, and community fundraising.
● Maintain excellent shop standards, layout and visual merchandising to maximise sales and provide an engaging supporter experience.
● Use performance data, sales figures and community feedback to identify opportunities to improve footfall, sales and community engagement.
● Work with the Head of Retail and Marketing Team to deliver promotional campaigns, seasonal events and fundraising initiatives.
2. Community Engagement and Fundraising
● Act as the face of Paul Sartori Foundation at the Community Store creating a welcoming environment where the community can engage with the charity.
● Develop relationships with local community groups, schools, businesses and stakeholders to encourage supporter-led fundraising, secure donations, and increase awareness of the charity’s services.
● Organise and run creative in-store fundraising events and community activities that increase engagement and generate additional income.
● Collaborate with the Fundraising Team to support Hospice-led fundraising campaigns, ensuring representation at local supporter events.
● Promote the charity brand and values, building positive relationships that position the Emporium as a vibrant community hub.
3. Staff and Volunteer Leadership
● Provide full line management of Assistant Manager, Retail Assistants and Volunteers, including recruitment, induction, training, performance management, and appraisals.
● Motivate and engage the team through coaching and mentoring, supporting their personal and professional development.
● Foster a culture of inclusion, recognition and empowerment, where staff and volunteers feel valued and motivated to contribute to success.
● Manage rotas to ensure sufficient cover and minimise the risk of shop closure.
● Identify and develop individuals’ strengths and interests to support both their growth and the delivery of business objectives.
4. Compliance, Policy and Standards
● Ensure the Emporium operates in full compliance with Health & Safety, safeguarding, HR and charity retail standards.
● Act as the designated Responsible Person for Health & Safety within the Store.
● Maintain accurate records and reporting on income, donations, fundraising, and community activities.
● Undertake risk assessments and ensure the premises are safe and compliant at all times.
● Uphold and promote the charity’s values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
5. Collaboration and Strategy
● Contribute to the wider Paul Sartori retail and fundraising strategy by sharing insights and feedback from the community.
● Work closely with the Marketing and Fundraising Teams to deliver joint projects and promotional opportunities.
● Attend meetings with the Retail Management Team and other departments to ensure alignment of goals and sharing of best practice.
● Support the Head of Retail in developing new initiatives and trialling innovative approaches to income generation.
