Summary
We are seeking a dedicated School Nurse to join Amesbury School in Hindhead. This vital role is based in Hindhead and involves providing high-quality health care and support to our students, ensuring their well-being aligns with our commitment to outstanding education and student development.
Specific Responsibilities
First Aid and Clinical Care (Primary Focus)
- Provide first aid, triage and ongoing care for pupils presenting with illness or injury
- Respond calmly and effectively to medical incidents and emergencies
- Assess situations, exercise sound clinical judgement and take appropriate action
- Escalate concerns appropriately to the Lead School Nurse where required
- Support pupils with a reassuring, professional and confident approach
- Ensure appropriate follow-up care and communication with staff and parents
- Support pupils with ongoing medical needs, including contributing to Individual Healthcare Plans
Medical Centre Support
- Support the day-to-day running of the medical centre under the direction of the Lead School Nurse
- Assist with the safe administration of medication in line with school policy
- Help ensure emergency medication is appropriately stored, accessible and in date
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, infection control and clinical safety
- Monitor and support stock levels of medical supplies and first aid equipment
Medical Records and Compliance
- Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date medical records in line with GDPR
- Support the management of pupil medical information and intake records
- Assist with accident and incident reporting for health and safety purposes
- Contribute to ensuring compliance with ISI standards and school policies
Wider School Provision
- Provide or support first aid provision for fixtures, trips and school events
- Offer pitch-side first aid cover where required
- Liaise effectively with parents and external healthcare professionals as appropriate
- Work collaboratively with staff to ensure pupils’ medical needs are understood and supported
Training and Professional Practice
- Support staff awareness of pupil medical needs and conditions
- Contribute to first aid training and awareness across the school where appropriate
- Work within the NMC Code of Conduct and remain professionally accountable for your practice
- Engage in ongoing professional development and clinical supervision
Pastoral and Safeguarding
- Act as a calm, approachable and reassuring presence for pupils
- Recognise and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with school policy
- Contribute to a safe, supportive and nurturing school environment
