Deputy Manager
Salary: £35,535, rising to £36,035 after probation and £37,035 after achieving Level 5
Average hours: 44.3 hours per week, inclusive of sleep-in duties
Rota: Hybrid operational and management rota, including 12-hour shifts, 8-hour management shifts, occasional 25-hour weekend shifts and participation in the on-call rota
As Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to provide operational leadership across the home. You will support care planning, safeguarding, staff supervision, regulatory compliance and day-to-day service delivery.
This role combines direct practice with management oversight, ensuring a consistent leadership presence within the home and continuity of support for both children and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the role, responsibilities will include:
- Providing strong, visible leadership across the home
- Promoting a child-centred, nurturing and trauma-informed culture
- Ensuring children receive safe, stable and high-quality care
- Supporting care planning, risk management and safeguarding practice
- Ensuring compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted expectations
- Supporting or leading inspection preparation and quality assurance activity
- Supervising, mentoring and developing residential care staff
- Promoting reflective practice, accountability and continuous improvement
- Working closely with placing authorities, families, schools, health professionals and external agencies
- Participating in the management on-call rota
- Helping children and young people feel safe, valued and empowered to thrive
About You
We are looking for experienced children’s residential professionals who are passionate about improving the lives of children and young people.
You will ideally have:
- Experience within children’s residential care
- Strong knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
- Experience leading, supervising or developing staff
- Confidence with safeguarding, care planning and risk management
- Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills
- A strong understanding of trauma-informed or therapeutic care
- A commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people
Essential Requirements
- Experience as a Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader or Deputy Manager within children’s residential care
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or equivalent
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards it
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, care planning and risk management
- Full UK driving licence
