As a Funeral Bearer, you will be at the very heart of our focal point of our business, consistantly delivering high levels of service to the deceased and their families. This is a casual postion, offering the flexibility to work around current work/life commitments.
The role may best suit someone who is retired and looking for casual work to top up other earnings/pensions. The day time work is adhoc, but you must also be able to committ to out of hours by assisting bringing loved ones into our care during night times and weekends as we operate a 24 hour service. Applicants will need to live within 20-25 minutes of Okehampton.
The Opportunity:
Our funeral bearers are often the first members of the team to meet our families and are our ambassadors for the company. You would be part of a team providing reasurance, that will look after the family's loved one as we bring them into our care.
Previous experiance within the funeral profession will be advantageous. However full training will be given, so are you:

Hours of work: PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A FULL TIME 40HR WEEK ROLE
The hours of work are variable each week can differ and never two the same, but you will be required to meet the needs of the company as and when required. Most funerals are Monday to Friday, however occasional weekend services are required at the request of the families we serve.
In addition to funeral services is the role of 'bringing into care' you must be able to commit and respond to a phone call to meet a colleague at any hour, day or night, during the week, weekends and bank holidays. If you are not sure you can commit, then please do not apply. You would be involved in helping to move the deceased from the place where they have passed away to our private ambulance.
Main purpose:
All candidates must have the right to work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
- Preparing and ensuring cleanliness of vehicles
- Being part of the funeral service by bearing the coffin on your shoulder and driving company vehicles
- Assisting the funeral director with pre-checks, including route planning and address checking
- Transferring those who have passed away into our care from various locations
- Some mortuary duties may be required, dressing the deceased.
- Support all ceremonial aspects of the funeral as a chauffeur and pallbearer
You will need
- A full UK driving licence and 5 years driving experiance
- Good level of physical fitness, as this role will include heavy lifting duties
- The necessary documentation for driving licence checks
- Pride in your apperarance, ensuring you are always professional
- A caring, empathetic nature
- The determination to deliver excellent client service
- Consent to an enhanced DBS check
Additional duties
You are required as part of your normal duties to be 'On Call' to provide out of hours telephone cover for a 24 hour service from time to time.
You are required as part of your normal duties to provide out of hours cover to deal with emergencies, which will include unsocial hours, weekends and bank/public holidays.

PLEASE NOTE WE PAY PER FUNERAL OR RECEPTION INTO CARE ATTENDED
You will be paid £40 per funeral service, £35 for reception into care during day time hours £60 during night time hours. Any additional hours work will be paid the national minimum wage.

Pay: £12.21-£14.00 per hour
