Assistant Manager – Fish & Chip Shop
Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and hands-on Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of our busy fish and chip shop. The successful candidate will be confident working across both the kitchen and front of house, ensuring excellent food quality, outstanding customer service, and smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Duties
- Prepare and cook fish, chips, and other menu items to company standards.
- Assist with food preparation and stock rotation.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness.
- Ensure food safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
Front of House Duties
- Deliver excellent customer service in a friendly and professional manner.
- Take customer orders accurately using the till system.
- Handle cash and card payments.
- Have barista experience and be confident preparing a range of coffees, including espresso, americano, latte, cappuccino, flat white, and mocha.
- Steam and texture milk correctly and maintain the coffee machine and equipment.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints professionally.
- Keep the dining and service areas clean, organised, and welcoming.
Management Responsibilities
- Support the Shop Manager with the daily operation of the business.
- Supervise and motivate team members during shifts.
- Assist with staff training and development.
- Open and close the shop when required.
- Monitor stock levels and place orders when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety and food hygiene regulations.
- Help maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Experience working in both a kitchen and customer-facing environment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- A positive attitude with a willingness to lead by example.
