Self-Employed Gold Card Electrician
Rate: £275 per day basic + performance bonuses (potential earnings up to £350 per day)
Location: Various sites across [Area]
We are looking for a reliable, experienced ECS Gold Card Electrician to work alongside our LV cable jointing team on domestic and commercial service alteration projects.
This is a self-employed position offering regular work, competitive rates, and the opportunity to earn additional bonuses based on productivity and performance.
Main Duties
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Drilling access holes and assisting with service cable installations.
- Feeding and routing service cables into properties.
- Installation of single-phase and three-phase cut-outs (dead works only).
- Installation of external meter boxes.
- Installation and termination of SWA cables from external meter positions to consumer units.
- Inspection and verification of earthing and bonding arrangements.
- Assessing suitability of PME earthing arrangements.
- Installation or upgrading of main protective bonding where required.
- Consumer unit alterations associated with service upgrades and meter relocations.
- Testing and certification of completed electrical works.
- Liaising professionally with customers, DNOs, ICPs, metering operators, and site representatives.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and housekeeping.
Essential Requirements
- ECS Gold Card Electrician.
- Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- Competent in inspection, testing, and fault finding.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Own van, tools, and testing equipment.
- Public Liability Insurance.
- UTR number and ability to work on a self-employed basis.
- CIS registered.
- Strong understanding of earthing systems, bonding requirements, and PME arrangements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- NICEIC Registered Electrician (or employed by a NICEIC Approved Contractor).
- City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 & 2395 Inspection and Testing qualifications.
- Previous experience working alongside DNOs, ICPs, metering providers, or utility contractors.
- Experience with service alterations, meter relocations, and cut-out installations.
- NRSWA accreditation.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
