Teaching Assistant
Jasmine Hall School
Make a real difference for young people who've struggled elsewhere
Jasmine Hall School is an independent special school for young people aged 11–18 with autism and associated communication, sensory and emotional needs. We're part of Smoothstone Care and Education, and we're looking for a Teaching Assistant who understands that relationships come first.
Most of our young people have experienced school refusal or failed mainstream placements. What they need - and what we provide - is a genuinely warm, understanding environment where they feel safe enough to learn. As a Teaching Assistant here, you'll be part of that. You'll help create a classroom where young people can re-engage with learning because they trust the adults around them.
What the role involves
You'll work alongside our teachers to:
- Support pupils to access a personalised, ambitious curriculum designed around their strengths and needs
- Help create a calm, nurturing classroom environment grounded in unconditional positive regard
- Lead on small group or individual work, and contribute meaningfully to lesson delivery
- Keep careful, thoughtful records of pupil progress and flag concerns promptly - safeguarding is your primary responsibility
- Work collaboratively in lesson planning and contribute your observations of what helps individual young people thrive
You'll need to be reliable, able to follow instruction, and comfortable using your initiative when the moment calls for it. Most importantly, you'll need to be genuinely interested in the young people you work with and committed to helping them succeed.
Who we're looking for
You'll likely have experience working with young people with SEND, including those who may be reluctant or resistant learners. But more than that, we're looking for someone who:
- Believes that trust and relationship are the foundation for learning
- Can stay calm and respond thoughtfully when things are challenging
- Takes pride in noticing and recording what each young person can do
- Wants to develop their practice and learn alongside an experienced team
- Is genuinely drawn to this kind of work - not just looking for a job
This role offers a genuine opportunity to develop your skills in a specialist setting and to be part of young people's turning points.
