Why Break?
At Break we invest in the future of our staff just as we do for the young people in our services. We strive to provide the highest quality of care, so whether you’re just starting your career in children’s social care or are already qualified, you’ll be supported, recognised and rewarded for your essential part in our vital work.
About the Role:
Our mentoring service is a key part of the support we provide to the children and young people in our care. Young people consistently tell us that the unique relationships they build with their mentors give them a trusted, independent person to talk to about life's challenges, outside of their usual network of support workers and professionals. These relationships provide valuable emotional support, encourage personal growth, and help young people build confidence, resilience, and positive aspirations for the future.
Our aspiration is for every young person supported by Break to have access to a mentor. As our Mentoring Lead, you will play a pivotal role in growing, developing, and sustaining this valued service, ensuring that existing mentoring relationships continue to thrive while creating opportunities for new, meaningful connections that have the potential to make a lifelong impact.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate individual who is committed to delivering high-quality support to children and young people. The successful candidate will have the drive, enthusiasm, and ambition to further develop the service, expand its reach, and help us realise our vision of ensuring that every young person has access to a positive and trusted mentoring relationship.
About You:
You will work as part of a close-knit and supportive team, building positive and trusting relationships with the young people accessing our services.
As a positive role model, you will support children and young people to overcome the impact of past trauma, rebuild trust in adults, and develop the confidence and resilience needed to move forward positively.
This will be achieved through collaborative working with colleagues and the support of Break’s therapeutic services.
You will be patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient, with the ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations. You will thrive in a team environment, offering support to both young people and colleagues, while demonstrating strong emotional intelligence and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will be a proactive team player with excellent problem-solving skills, a flexible approach, and a genuine passion for supporting children and young people to reach their full potential.
Please note that you must have a full, valid, manual driving licence.
In your role, you’ll have access to the following benefits:
- Free, career-enhancing qualifications
- A “golden hello” scheme welcoming you to our services, with £500 paid to you one month after your start date and a second £500 at the six-month mark. (Not available to candidates referred by recruitment agencies) (Subject to conditions)
- A referral scheme offering the same two payments as the golden hello if you recommend a contact who goes on to be employed by Break in care services. (subject to conditions)
- 31 days annual leave per year (including bank holidays)
- Annual leave purchase
- Additional service-related holiday from 2 years
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- Company funded medical cash plan
- Enhanced sick pay and family friendly leave
- Pension salary sacrifice
- Life assurance to the value of 3x your annual salary
- Access to the Blue Light benefits platform enabling you to access discounts across a range of shops, venues and services (your membership fee will be reimbursed)
