Our professional clerking service launched in September 2025 and has grown significantly, with schools consistently valuing the professionalism, reliability and expertise our clerks bring to every meeting.
We are now seeking an experienced Clerk to School Governors to support schools within the RH2 postcode area.
The Role
This vacancy is specifically for an experienced governance professional who has previously clerked school governing bodies.
You will provide high-quality professional governance support, ensuring governing boards are well organised, compliant and able to operate effectively.
You will receive ongoing support from SAfE's central governance team and have access to continuing professional development and a network of experienced governance professionals.
The Clerk to School Governors plays a vital role in the effective operation of the governing body.
Key responsibilities
- Providing comprehensive administrative support, including preparing and distributing agendas and meeting papers.
- Attending governing body meetings within the RH2 postcode area.
- Producing accurate, high-quality minutes and maintaining governance records and documentation.
- Advising governing boards on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.
- Supporting compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Providing procedural advice to Chairs and governing boards to ensure meetings are effective and well managed.
Flexible Working
We understand the importance of flexibility, which is why this role offers:
- Home working for meeting preparation and minute writing.
- Attendance at scheduled governing body meetings.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Previous experience as a Clerk to School Governors or Clerk to a Governing Board within a maintained school or academy.
- A sound understanding of school governance procedures and statutory requirements.
- Excellent minute-taking and written communication skills.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, email and online meeting platforms.
- A professional, reliable and confidential approach.
- A commitment to supporting effective governance in schools.
- Access to your own reliable transport to attend meetings within the RH2 postcode area.
Desirable
- Level 3 Certificate in Clerking or equivalent governance qualification.
- Knowledge of GovernorHub or other governance management systems.

Pay: £20.00-£22.00 per hour
