Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated apprentice Commercial HGV Trailer/Truck Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be learning how to maintain, repair, and diagnose a wide range of heavy goods vehicle trailers and lorries. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, electrical knowledge, and proficiency with various tools and equipment. Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on commercial trailers and lorries
- Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams
- Perform repairs involving welding, soldering, fabrication, and assembly of parts
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to carry out repairs and modifications
- Repair or replace components such as brakes, axles, suspension systems, lighting, and electrical systems
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out and parts utilised
- Assist with the repair of auxiliary equipment such as excavators and forklifts as required
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and industry standards
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repair status and recommendations
- Undertake heavy lifting tasks safely to handle large components or equipment parts
Qualifications
- Proven experience in mechanical repair of commercial vehicles, trailers or similar heavy machinery
- Knowledge of electrical systems within HGVs including schematics interpretation
- Skills in fabrication, welding, soldering, and working with hand tools and power tools
- Familiarity with assembly processes and equipment repair techniques
- Experience working with specialised equipment such as excavators or forklifts is advantageous
- Strong understanding of maintenance procedures for heavy vehicles and auxiliary machinery
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills to provide clear updates to customers and team members
