Data Protection Officer – Schools & Trusts
Salary: £38,000–£46,500 per year
Location: Hybrid remote, with regular travel to schools and trusts across the UK
Base: Gloucester GL4 5UA
Contract: Full-time, part-time, term-time only, permanent
Please note, whilst we are looking for a full-time position, we would also be interested in speaking to candidates looking for part-time roles as well, and would be particularly keen to discuss this role as a term-time only role for suitable candidates.
We are looking for a confident, practical Data Protection Officer to join our growing data protection team.
This is a client-facing role supporting schools and multi-academy trusts across the UK. You will work directly with school and trust leaders, provide clear advice, deliver training, carry out audits and reviews, and help clients put strong data protection practice into place.
This role suits someone with strong experience in education or data protection, and the ability to build credibility quickly across both. You will need to be confident working with senior leaders, communicating clearly, and turning compliance requirements into practical support for schools and trusts.
Role purpose
To deliver the company’s core data protection services to schools and trusts, ensuring strong compliance with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and related legislation, while providing expert, practical guidance that works in real education settings.
Essential requirements
- Strong professional experience in either:
- - schools, academies, trusts, or the wider education sector; or
- - data protection, DPO work, or a closely related advisory or compliance role
- Strong understanding of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and wider data protection requirements
- Confidence working directly with clients and senior leaders
- Experience delivering training, presentations, or staff briefings
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Good judgement, organisation, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and relevant digital platforms
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
- Willingness to travel regularly to schools and trusts across the UK
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
Desirable
- Experience supporting schools or MATs with data protection
- Experience of audits, compliance reviews, or DPO work
- Formal data protection qualifications such as CIPP/E or equivalent
- Experience delivering staff training in schools or trusts
Location and travel
This is a hybrid role based around remote working, with regular travel to schools and trusts across the UK. Our base is Gloucester GL4 5UA.
